Mashhad: The aircraft carrying the bodies of martyred Iranian Leader, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, and his family members has arrived at Shahid Hashemi-Nejad Airport in Mashhad, marking the conclusion of a week-long national and international mourning period.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the tragic event on February 28, 2026, involved a terror attack by the United States and the Israeli regime on Ayatollah Khamenei's residence, resulting in the deaths of the Ayatollah and several family members, including his daughter, son-in-law, granddaughter, and daughter-in-law. This incident has united Iran and the region in grief.

The farewell ceremonies commenced on Friday, July 3, with international dignitaries, political leaders from over 45 countries, and religious scholars from 90 nations in attendance to pay their respects.

Throughout the weekend, Tehran's Mosalla was the site of massive crowds of mourners from across the country gathering to bid their farewells. On Monday, July 6, millions took part in a historic funeral procession in Tehran, followed by a profound ceremony in Qom at the Jamkaran Mosque on the next day.

The mourning process extended beyond Iran's borders on Wednesday, July 8, as approximately four million people in the Iraqi cities of Najaf and Karbala joined an unprecedented funeral procession, which was attended by notable Iraqi political and religious figures.

The final procession in Mashhad will culminate in the internment of the martyred Leader at the holy shrine of Imam Reza (PBUH).
