Tehran: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian in a meeting in Tehran on Thursday with visiting Qatari Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al Thani emphasized the need for recognizing all the rights of the Iranian nation within the framework of international law, saying that the Islamic Republic of Iran demands nothing beyond its legal rights and will not yield to pressure or coercion.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, in a meeting with the Qatari Prime Minister while referring to recent bitter events, Pezeshkian said that events occurred that were unacceptable; however, we remain convinced that Iran and Qatar are two friendly and brotherly nations, and the issues that have arisen can be resolved through mutual understanding.
Stating that the United States and the Zionist regime do not desire stability in the region, he emphasized: Iran and Qatar had planned to undertake numerous joint initiatives, but the war caused delays in the implementation of agreements and the expansion of bilateral relations.
Pezeshkian pointed out that the Zionist regime's agenda is to prevent the establishment of cordial relations among Muslims. We appreciate the efforts of the Qatari government and its Emir to mediate and foster peace and stability; these efforts are highly valued by the Islamic Republic of Iran.
Earlier today, Al Thani met with Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi to discuss key regional and bilateral issues.
On Wednesday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei said that Al Thani, who is also the foreign minister, will meet Iranian officials to discuss 'de-escalation' and 'create conditions for dialogue.'
Pointing to Qatar's commendable efforts in recent months to help prevent an escalation of regional tensions following the military aggression by the US and the Israeli regime against Iran, he said that the Qatari prime minister would discuss the continuation of Qatar's mediation efforts and initiatives, as well as other regional developments, during his meetings with Iranian officials.
