Tehran: The deputy chief of protocol at the Iranian president's office says President Masoud Pezeshkian believes the current 'neither war nor peace' situation benefits no one in the country, and he intends to seize any opportunity to move past the crisis and uncertainty.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, President Pezeshkian believes that if there is a window or path for genuine diplomacy amid the efforts being made by mediators, Iran should seize the opportunity and reach a more stable situation, Seyed Abbas Mousavi told IRNA.

Iran believes in diplomacy and is also fully prepared for it, but is clear that the other side shows no seriousness, Mousavi said. However, if Pezeshkian speaks of peace, it does not mean that all our problems with the Americans will be resolved by signing a memorandum or even a formal agreement, the official further added.

Regarding Iranians living abroad, the official said that most Iranians abroad - except for a specific minority - are patriotic, highly educated, and cultured individuals. They can return to their country with the support and guarantee of the president himself, stay as long as they wish, and travel freely, he added.

The issue of the return of Iranians abroad is being pursued seriously and decisively by Pezeshkian, so that the country can benefit from their capacities and expertise, Mousavi said.

On whether President Pezeshkian will attend the upcoming UN General Assembly given current Iran-US tensions, Mousavi said, 'We are still finalizing whether to participate, and if so, at what level and with how many delegates.'
