Tehran: An Iranian commercial container ship was hit by an unidentified projectile early Sunday near Hengam Island in the Strait of Hormuz, killing one crew member and injuring four others, according to the governor of Iran's Qeshm Island.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hossein Amir-Teymouri stated that the vessel was operating in the Strait of Hormuz, near Hengam Island, when the incident occurred in the early hours of Sunday. He mentioned that the ship was a commercial container carrier with 10 crew members aboard at the time of the incident.

Information released so far indicates that one crew member, identified as Jamshid Rajabi, was killed after the projectile struck the vessel, while four other crew members sustained injuries. Amir-Teymouri noted that an investigation into the circumstances of the incident was underway.

He emphasized that the projectile involved in the incident was unidentified and that further details regarding its origin, nature, and the circumstances surrounding the strike had not yet been released.
