Los Angeles: Following the escalation of Donald Trump administration’s actions against immigrants, widespread protests have taken place in the Los Angeles area, leading to clashes between police and protesters, violence, tear gas, and the arrest of dozens of people. The Los Angeles police chief said on Monday local time that the level of violence that occurred following protests against immigration enforcement in the city of Los Angeles was “disgusting.”
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the protests resulted in 27 people being arrested in the city on Saturday. Charges included throwing a Molotov cocktail at a police officer and riding a motorcycle into a police line. The Los Angeles Police Chief emphasized the severity of the situation, noting an increase in violence since the protests began. He highlighted incidents where firecrackers were thrown at officers, posing lethal risks.
California leaders, including Governor Gavin Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, have accused Trump of exacerbating the situation by requisitioning the state national guard. Newsom urged the president to rescind the order, stating that Trump’s involvement was a breach of state sovereignty and was inflaming tensions unnecessarily.
On the streets, frustrations were evident as LAPD officers faced loud insults and objects being thrown while attempting to manage the crowd without escalating tensions further.
