Repatriation of Undocumented Afghans from Iran Rises by 30%: Official

Taibad: The number of undocumented Afghan nationals voluntarily returning to Afghanistan via Iran’s Dogharoun international border crossing saw a 30% increase in October compared to the previous months of July and August, a local official said.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hossein Jamshidi, the governor of Taibad, stated that undocumented Afghan nationals are now proceeding directly to migrant camps in 11 provinces across the country to arrange their return. These individuals are then directed to the Dogharoun land border in Khorasan Razavi Province to facilitate their journey back to Afghanistan.

Jamshidi highlighted that the number of deported and identified undocumented Afghans exiting through Dogharoun increased by 10% in October compared to the summer months. Since the start of the calendar year on March 21, over 1.2 million undocumented Afghan nationals have returned to their country through this border crossing.

He further announced plans to equip the Dogharoun border crossing with a biometric identification system for foreign nationals, marking the first such implementation among Iran’s border checkpoints.
