Athens:Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, has responded to US narratives framing aggression against Iran as a civilizational conflict by referencing the ancient defeat of Rome by the Sasanian king Shapur I.
Accourding to Islamic Republic News Agency, Rezaei's remarks were prompted by a speech from US Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Athens. Rubio referenced Western civilization and made derogatory comments about Iran and its heritage.
Rezaei pointed to a historical event where the Roman emperor submitted to Shapur I, criticizing the use of history to frame current conflicts. He emphasized that invoking history requires readiness for its lessons to reoccur. This reference highlights the Sasanian Empire's significant victory over Rome, countering the US official's narrative.
