Security in Persian Gulf and Sea of Oman: A Matter for All or None, Declares IRGC

Tehran: Iran's Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, affiliated with the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC), has asserted that the security of ports in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman must be a shared responsibility. The statement underscores the Islamic Republic's firm position on ensuring regional maritime safety.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, spokesperson for Khatam Al-Anbiya Central Headquarters, Lieutenant Colonel Ebrahim Zolfaghari, stated that the Iranian Armed Forces consider defending the country's legal rights a fundamental duty. He emphasized that Tehran views the exercise of sovereignty over its territorial waters as an inherent right of the Iranian nation.

Zolfaghari reiterated that Iranian forces are committed to securing the country's territorial waters. He highlighted previous declarations stating that vessels belonging to enemy forces are barred from transiting the Strait of Hormuz, while other ships may pass as long as they adhere to the regulations set by the Iranian Armed Forces.

The spokesperson also noted that, in light of ongoing threats to Iran's national security even after recent hostilities ceased, the country plans to maintain a permanent mechanism to oversee the Strait of Hormuz. He criticized recent restrictions imposed by the United States on international maritime movement, labeling them as unlawful and akin to piracy.

Zolfaghari concluded by warning that if the security of Iranian ports in the Persian Gulf or the Sea of Oman is compromised, no port in the region will remain secure. This follows the joint US-Israeli aggression against Iran on February 28, 2026, which led to retaliatory actions by the Islamic Republic and restrictions on the Strait of Hormuz to vessels identified as hostile.
