China Criticizes US Over Strait of Hormuz Policy

Beijing: China's foreign ministry spokesperson reiterated that the root cause of disruptions to navigation in the Strait of Hormuz lies in the war imposed on Iran, and the way to resolve this issue is to achieve a ceasefire and end hostilities as soon as possible. 'All parties should remain calm and exercise restraint. China stands ready to continue playing a positive and constructive role', Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun said on Monday when asked to comment on US President Donald Trump's order on Sunday that the US Navy would start blockading the Strait of Hormuz, and China's view on security in the Strait and related energy issues.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Guo added that the Strait of Hormuz is a vital route for international trade in goods and energy. Maintaining security, stability, and unimpeded passage in the region serves the common interests of the international community.

In an interview with Fox News on Sunday, US President Donald Trump raised the possibility of blockading the Strait of Hormuz, warning that if negotiations fail, more severe options against Iran will be put on the agenda.
