Six Iranian Universities Achieve Spots in Shanghai Ranking’s Top 1,000

Tehran: Six Iranian universities have been recognized among the world's top 1,000 universities in the latest Shanghai Ranking for 2026, as stated by the head of the Islamic World Science and Technology Monitoring and Citation Institute (ISC).

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Mohammad-Mehdi Alavian-Mehr announced that Tehran University of Medical Sciences and the University of Tehran jointly took the highest spot among Iranian universities, placing in the 501-600 bracket. The announcement highlighted the consistent top-ranking positions held by three US institutions, with Harvard University, Stanford University, and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) securing the first, second, and third positions respectively in the 2026 ranking.

Alavian-Mehr emphasized the prestige of the Shanghai Ranking, which is annually published by Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He further noted that Amirkabir University of Technology ranked third among Iranian universities, placing in the 801-900 bracket. Additionally, Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences, Sharif University of Technology, and Tarbiat Modares University were also included in the ranking, each placing within the 901-1,000 bracket.
