Smart People Ought to Choose ‘Maximum Wisdom’ Instead of ‘Maximum Pressure’: Iran’s Foreign Minister

Tehran: Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abbas Araghchi has criticized the 'maximum pressure' policy of US President Donald Trump, labeling it a failed experience that will inevitably be met with 'maximum resistance.' Araghchi emphasized the importance of choosing 'maximum wisdom' over pressure tactics.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi expressed these views on his X account, highlighting Iran's commitment to nonproliferation. He stated, "In addition to being a party in good standing to the NPT and other global nonproliferation instruments, Iran has already made abundantly clear that 'under no circumstances will Iran ever seek, develop or acquire any nuclear weapons.'" Araghchi further argued that reaching practical assurances that Iran will not develop nuclear weapons is achievable if there are objective guarantees that hostile measures, including economic pressures and sanctions, will be effectively terminated.

The comments from Araghchi come in response to President Trump's decision to restore his 'maximum pressure' campaign on Iran, which he initiated during his first term. Trump, speaking from the Oval Office as he signed the presidential memorandum, mentioned his hesitation about taking the action. The announcement was made shortly before a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
