Accra:Iran's Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics has highlighted the increasing significance of space and emerging technologies as key drivers of future power, with global competition extending into these new domains.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the ministry made this assertion in a statement celebrating World Space Week 2026, emphasizing this year's theme, 'Rocket Revolution.' The theme underscores the critical role of space in development, communications, and national security.

The ministry emphasized the necessity for independent and sustainable access to space, which requires the capability to design, build, and launch satellites, along with the development of indigenous satellite launch vehicles. Satellite launch vehicles are described as products of advanced technologies and the expertise of Iranian specialists, forming part of strategic technology development.

Addressing modern warfare considerations, the Ministry of Defense noted that space has become integral to security calculations. It warned that reliance on space infrastructure might render countries vulnerable and limit their national capabilities.

Additionally, the ministry underscored the importance of indigenous space capabilities for national independence and resilience, highlighting the need for scientific investment, infrastructure development, and specialized personnel training.

Iran's satellite launch vehicle program, including Safir, Simorgh, Qoqnoos, and Sarir, is portrayed as a culmination of years of experience and technological progress. The ministry affirmed the necessity to continue striving for independent and sustainable access to space.

Space, artificial intelligence, data, and emerging technologies were identified as future power drivers, with the ministry stressing the importance of ongoing scientific and technological efforts to achieve robust access to space, reinforce national power, promote sustainable development, and safeguard Iran's interests and security.
