Sulaymaniyah Governor Emphasizes Stronger Iran-Iraqi Kurdistan Cultural Ties

Sulaymaniyah: The Governor of Sulaymaniyah, Haval Abubakir, has emphasized the significance of strengthening cultural cooperation between Iran and the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. This statement was made during his visit to Iran’s pavilion at the 7th edition of the Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair, where he expressed his satisfaction with Iran’s active participation in the event.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Abubakir was accompanied by the head of the Kurdistan Journalists Syndicate and the head of the Halabja Awqaf office during the visit. The manager of the Iranian pavilion provided insights into the latest published works covering literature, children’s and young adult books, art, religion, Iranian studies, and translations, while also presenting a report on Iran’s cultural activities. As a gesture of goodwill, a valuable publication introducing Iran was gifted to the Governor of Sulaymaniyah.

The 7th edition of the Sulaymaniyah International Book Fair commenced in Iraq with notable participation from the Islamic Republic on Saturday. The event showcases contributions from 250 publishing houses and printing and distribution centers from 16 foreign countries, including Iran, Egypt, Lebanon, the UK, the UAE, Germany, Palestine, Denmark, Turkey, Jordan, Kuwait, and Morocco.

The exhibition highlights over 250,000 titles spanning a wide array of genres, such as children’s literature, education, the arts, politics, economics, society, history, and philosophy. The pavilion of the Islamic Republic alone displays over 500 titles on various topics. The fair is scheduled to run until October 13 and includes a series of cultural events featuring authors and publishers from both Iraq and abroad.
