Supertanker Explodes After Striking Mine Near Strait of Hormuz

Hormuz:A supertanker carrying over two million barrels of crude oil exploded and caught fire after hitting a naval mine south of the Strait of Hormuz, as reported by Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) Navy.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the IRGC Navy stated that the tanker had deactivated all its radar and navigation systems in an attempt to exit through the southern, unauthorized route of the strait, ignoring warnings from Iranian naval forces. This action led to the vessel striking a mine, which caused the explosion and subsequent fire.

The IRGC Navy has cautioned vessel owners and crews within the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman to avoid unauthorized routes, asserting that any movements compromising the security of the Strait of Hormuz will be met with decisive action.
