Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has emphasized that Tehran's decisions are guided by national interests, asserting that the country will not succumb to Washington's dictates or excessive demands. Speaking at a weekly press conference, Baqaei extended condolences for the martyrdom of three Iranians in a US attack on Larak Island.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei addressed inquiries regarding the ministry's stance on current negotiations with the United States. He stated that the ministry evaluates developments, expressing its views based on national interests, and will act as determined by competent authorities. Despite acknowledging the confusion in US officials' approaches, Baqaei asserted that Iran remains focused on its capabilities.

Baqaei highlighted Iran's commitment to using diplomatic tools when necessary to clarify its positions and protect the Iranian nation's rights. He noted ongoing efforts by Pakistan and other countries to de-escalate tensions, mentioning Pakistan's military chief, Field Marshal Asim Munir, who visited Iran to present Islamabad's views. Baqaei reasserted that safeguarding national interests remains Iran's constant criterion.

The spokesperson remarked that US attacks are not new and have consistently been met with responses from Iran. He criticized the US's aggressive actions as a reflection of ill intent and confusion, fueled by excessive demands and a mistaken belief in dictating terms during negotiations, an approach Iran will not accept.

Baqaei insisted that the US must be held accountable for violating the Islamabad memorandum of understanding. He concluded that Iran's focus remains on defense and resistance against the US's excessive demands, with decisions on further actions to be made based on evolving circumstances.
