Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei announced that Iran supports any initiative that promotes international peace and security, multilateralism, the UN Charter, and international law.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during a weekly press conference on Tuesday, Baqaei described China as a friend and a vital trading and strategic partner, highlighting Beijing's significant role in advancing multilateralism and fostering solidarity among countries in the Global South. He attributed the region's severe insecurity over the past year to the illegal actions of the US and the Israeli regime, asserting that to resolve these issues, the US must change its course promptly and avoid further crises.

Addressing the situation in Syria, Baqaei clarified that Iran had not signaled any desire to establish relations with Syria. He emphasized that Iran's past support for Syria was provided at the request of its then-legitimate government to combat terrorism and maintain the country's territorial integrity. Additionally, he condemned the Israeli regime's occupation of parts of Syria's Golan Heights and ongoing actions against Syria, restating Iran's firm opposition to such measures.

Baqaei also touched upon the trilateral Turkiye-Pakistan-Saudi security pact, stating that Iran does not perceive the arrangement as a threat. He expressed that regional Muslim countries are turning towards mutual cooperation to ensure their security. He added that Iran is in dialogue with these countries and will continue discussions with Turkiye, an important neighbor with which Tehran has good relations, on all issues.

Moreover, Baqaei urged Iraq and the Kurdistan Region to curb terrorist activities against Iran. He noted that terrorist groups exploit regions in Iraq's Kurdistan to plan and prepare actions against Iran, stressing the need for both Baghdad and the Kurdistan Region to enhance their efforts in fully implementing the security agreement and protecting border security. Iran has repeatedly raised these concerns with Iraqi and Kurdish officials, hoping that consultations will help eliminate security threats on both sides of the border.

In his remarks, Baqaei criticized the European Union for ignoring the root causes of the energy and economic crisis. He expressed hope that European countries would acknowledge that their fuel and economic problems stem from illegal US actions, but noted that they require moral courage to state this reality. He described the EU statement as disappointing, accusing Europe of choosing appeasement of the aggressor instead of addressing the root cause of the crisis, a policy he believes will not work.
