Tehran Meeting to Address Regional Security With Key Officials

Tehran:Senior officials from Saudi Arabia, Pakistan, and Turkey are set to meet in Tehran on Monday, with regional security as the primary focus of discussions. The meeting, hosted by Iran, aims to explore measures to secure West Asia through collaborative regional efforts.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the meeting follows a proposal by Pakistan during Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir's recent visit to Tehran. Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Munir, and Turkey's intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin will engage in talks with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council Mohsen Rezaie.

The officials plan to address key regional security concerns, such as Israel's expansionism, developments in the occupied Palestinian territories, Lebanon, and the ramifications of US military actions against Iran. The gathering marks the first such talks between Iran and the Mecca Pact countries since their agreement in August.

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei highlighted the importance of establishing a regional security framework based on the interests of regional countries. He emphasized the necessity of trust and cooperation among these nations for lasting security. Additionally, Baqaei noted that recent developments, particularly over the past eight months, underscore this need.

On another note, Baqaei mentioned that Iran has not received any specific proposals from European countries regarding negotiations amid escalating tensions. He criticized European countries for their unconstructive stance over the past two years, particularly their lack of condemnation of US-Israeli actions against Iran.

In related developments, President Masoud Pezeshkian's upcoming visit to Russia for the Gas Exporting Countries Forum will offer a platform for discussions among major energy suppliers. Baqaei also addressed various other topics, including Iran's support for Lebanon, the situation in Albania, and protests in Europe.
