Tehran: Secretary of Iran's Supreme National Security Council, Mohsen Rezaei, has criticized US President Donald Trump for perpetuating what he describes as a "foolish war" against Iran. Despite the prolonged conflict, which began earlier this year, Rezaei affirmed Iran's readiness for self-defense, warning of a more severe response should the US continue its military aggression.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Rezaei's remarks were made during an exclusive interview with Al Jazeera. The conflict, initiated by the US with Israeli support on February 28, was anticipated to conclude within weeks but has now dragged on for nearly eight months. The US remains in a deadlock over strategies to end the war, which Rezaei attributes to miscalculations by Trump and pressure from Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Rezaei criticized the US's strategic approach, highlighting actions such as the naval blockade and economic isolation as evidence of inadequate assessments in military, economic, and political dimensions. He insisted that the war was waged under Netanyahu's influence, asserting that an acceptance of Iran's conditions is in America's best interest. These conditions include the release of Iran's frozen assets, cessation of the war on all fronts, and an end to internal interference and aggression.

Emphasizing Iran's preparedness, Rezaei outlined Iran's enhanced military capabilities, referencing recent tests of advanced anti-ship cluster missiles. He assured that Iran is ready to inflict more severe damage if provoked, while cautioning neighboring countries against aligning with Washington's economic hostilities.

Regarding Iran's nuclear program, Rezaei mentioned the possibility of withdrawing from the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty, contingent upon US actions. He refuted claims of the Yemeni conflict being an extension of the Iran-US war, warning that current hostilities could escalate into a global conflict. Rezaei concluded by urging regional countries to prevent the use of their territories for US military operations against Iran.
