New york: Iran's ambassador and permanent representative to the United Nations, Amir Saeid Iravani, has addressed a letter to the UN secretary-general and the president of the UN Security Council, condemning the recent US military actions against Iran. The envoy asserted that Washington holds 'full and unequivocal responsibility for all consequences' resulting from its actions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the letter highlights that the Islamic Republic of Iran views the United States' actions as a grave violation of international agreements, including the Charter of the United Nations and the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding. Iran accuses the US of carrying out extensive military operations against Iranian sovereignty, particularly in Bushehr and several islands in the Persian Gulf, contravening Article 2(4) of the UN Charter.

The letter also reports that eight Iranian military personnel, from the Air Force and Navy, lost their lives during US military attacks on facilities in southern Iran on Wednesday, 8 July 2026. Among those killed were Captain Ali Moeini and several other officers and warrant officers stationed in Bushehr and Bandar Abbas. These individuals are described as making the ultimate sacrifice to defend their homeland.

Iran's government has strongly condemned what it terms as 'heinous crimes' by the United States, emphasizing the deliberate targeting of civilian facilities and persistent violations of international law. Iran urges the UN Security Council and the Secretary-General to take immediate actions to hold the United States accountable and to prevent further escalation of aggression.

The letter concludes with a call for the UN Security Council's prompt and decisive intervention, criticizing its previous inaction, which Iran claims has emboldened further US aggression. Iran stresses that the continued unlawful use of force by the United States poses a significant threat to international peace and security.
