Islamabad:UN Secretary-General António Guterres is in Pakistan to engage with local officials regarding ongoing diplomatic efforts between Iran and the United States.
According to the Islamic Republic News Agency, Deputy Spokesman for the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, stated that Guterres is expected to discuss Pakistan's role in mediating talks between Tehran and Washington. The visit will include meetings with senior government figures such as Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar.
Additionally, Guterres is scheduled to meet with President Asif Ali Zardari. This visit coincides with Iran's ongoing diplomatic exchanges, including the recent conveyance of a seven-day plan to the US through Qatari mediators, as part of efforts to address the conflict. Iran has received a counter-proposal from the US and is assessing additional points to respond.
