UN Spokesperson Highlights Impact of Sanctions on Ordinary People

Tehran:At a United Nations press briefing, spokesperson Stephane Dujarric emphasized concerns about the increasing use of unilateral sanctions globally, noting that these actions often harm ordinary people. This statement was made in response to a query regarding the impact of US sanctions on Iran, particularly concerning access to medicines and aviation safety.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Dujarric reiterated that the UN Secretary-General frequently voices worries about unilateral sanctions, which can inadvertently affect regular citizens in the targeted nations.

This issue has gained attention amid international discussions on the humanitarian implications of such measures on Iran. A recent UN Human Rights Council meeting underscored fears that these sanctions could disproportionately impact vulnerable groups and limit access to essential services, including healthcare.

The United States has a long history of imposing sanctions on Iran, a strategy that has intensified following military actions by the US and Israel against Iran. On August 24, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that President Donald Trump had directed an economic exclusion operation to further isolate Iran and its allies.
