Tehran:Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments accusing Iran of maritime piracy, drawing parallels to remarks made by US President Donald Trump.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei responded to Rubio's accusation, which likened Iran's alleged actions to those of the "Pirates of the Caribbean" and claimed such incidents haven't been seen since World War II. Baqaei highlighted President Trump's previous statements from May 1, 2026, where Trump compared US actions to piracy, stating, "We're like pirates. We're sort of like pirates."
Baqaei suggested that President Trump might not be pleased with Rubio's comments, which appear to overlook Trump's own portrayal of the US as engaging in piracy-like activities.
