Tehran: Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmail Baqaei says that the United States does not have a serious approach regarding the nuclear issue and sanctions. Baqaei spoke about the latest status of negotiations between Iran and the United States in a television program on Thursday.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei stated that over the past year and a half, whenever Iran has engaged in talks with the US regarding the nuclear issue and the lifting of sanctions, the US has simultaneously conducted military actions against Iran and intensified sanctions instead of lifting them. He also accused the US of committing acts of piracy against Iranian ships.
Baqaei emphasized that the US is not serious about lifting sanctions and has not learned from past mistakes. He pointed out the deep mistrust between the two countries, which is rooted in a long history of mistrust dating back even before the Islamic Revolution. He added that the US expects its maximum demands to be accepted, whereas Iran has consistently proposed solutions focused on ending the war and establishing a ceasefire.
Regarding the possibility of a change in mediator for the Iran-US talks, Baqaei mentioned that many countries with varying intentions have expressed their readiness to mediate. However, he confirmed that Pakistan remains the official mediator in these discussions.
In addition, Baqaei addressed the recent seizure of an Iranian ship by the US, labeling it an act of maritime piracy. He stated that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has been actively pursuing the issue through the Pakistani mediator to secure the release of the detained citizens.
