US Military Actions Endanger Iranian Fishermen’s Livelihoods, Claims Official

Qeshm:The livelihoods of Iranian fishermen are reportedly under threat due to US military actions in the region, according to Mousa Ghavidel, CEO of the Qeshm Fishermen's Cooperative. Ghavidel highlighted the destruction of fishing vessels and the loss of lives among fishermen as significant consequences of these actions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghavidel addressed the World Food Day conference, emphasizing the importance of Hormozgan's fishing community in supporting Iran's food security. The Persian Gulf is a major source of seafood protein for the country, he noted.

The fishing community in Hormozgan has been facing numerous challenges, including wartime conditions, climate change, and security threats in recent months. Ghavidel reported that 420 fishing boats and 70 fishing vessels have been destroyed due to the ongoing conflict involving the United States and the Israeli regime, resulting in the deaths of 15 fishermen and injuries to 11 others.

Furthermore, damage to fishing infrastructure, such as ports and piers, along with oil pollution from the conflict, is adversely affecting fishing grounds and marine habitats. Ghavidel expressed concern over the long-term impact on the local fishing industry and the broader food security of the region.
