Vice President Affirms Iran’s Peaceful Nuclear Doctrine

Tehran: First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref has asserted that Iran’s nuclear program remains entirely peaceful, emphasizing that nuclear weapons are not part of the nation’s defense strategy. In a recent interview with the Iran newspaper, Aref reiterated Iran’s longstanding commitment to peaceful nuclear activities, dismissing any pursuit of non-peaceful objectives.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Aref highlighted that Iran’s nuclear doctrine explicitly excludes the use of nuclear weapons. He also addressed the ongoing indirect negotiations between Iran and the U.S., stressing that successful talks require mutual respect and equality. Aref underscored Iran’s openness to dialogue but rejected any negotiations where one side imposes its demands unfairly.

The vice president expressed optimism that the indirect talks between Tehran and Washington might yield positive outcomes, including the lifting of sanctions. He emphasized that Iran’s government continues to prioritize diplomacy and cooperation, steering clear of confrontation and fostering unity and constructive engagement with international partners.

In a related development, Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi participated in the fifth round of indirect talks with the U.S. president’s special envoy for the Middle East, Steve Witkoff, in Rome on Friday. These discussions are being mediated by Oman, with three rounds previously held in Muscat, Oman, and two rounds in Rome, Italy.
