Tehran: Iran's ambassador and deputy permanent representative to the United Nations, Gholamhossein Darzi, has strongly condemned a deadly US strike on a home in Hormozgan during a wedding, calling it a war crime.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Darzi addressed the incident in a letter to UN Secretary-General Ant³nio Guterres and the president of the Security Council on September 2, 2026. The letter condemned the US attacks, highlighting the strike on a residential home in Hormozgan Province, which resulted in the deaths of four civilians, including a four-year-old child, and injuries to over 70 others during a wedding ceremony.

The letter described the attack as a deliberate violation of international law and a grave breach of the United Nations Charter. Darzi emphasized that the targeting of civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a war crime under international humanitarian law. He also noted Iran's response, stating that the Iranian Armed Forces had undertaken defensive measures against US military bases involved in the attacks.

Further, Darzi's letter outlined a pattern of unlawful and indiscriminate US attacks in Iran, citing a previous incident on February 28, 2026, when a US strike on an elementary school in Minab resulted in the deaths of over 168 students and injuries to 110 others. The letter called for the UN to hold the United States accountable for these actions and demand full reparation for the loss and damage inflicted upon the Iranian people.

Iran reiterated its call for the UN Secretary-General and Security Council President to condemn the US aggression, report on these violations, and demand the cessation of such acts. Darzi underscored Iran's commitment to international law and its right to self-defense, stating that Iran would take necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and people.
