‘We Stay True to Our Pledge:’ President Issues Message Ahead of Nasrallah’s and Safieddine’s Funeral

Beirut: On Sunday morning, as Lebanese citizens began to gather at the Camille Chamoun Sports City Stadium in Beirut for the funerals of Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah and Sayyed Hashim Safieddine, the president conveyed a message on his X account, referring to the two resistance leaders as 'the valiant sons' of the Lebanese nation.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the president, writing separately in Arabic and Persian, described Nasrallah and Safieddine as 'heroes who stayed true to their pledge and defended the dignity of the [Islamic] umma.' Nasrallah served as the secretary-general of Hezbollah, the Lebanese resistance movement, for 32 years until he was assassinated in an Israeli strike in Dahieh, a southern suburb of Beirut, on September 27 last year.

Safieddine, who succeeded Nasrallah as Hezbollah's secretary-general following his assassination, was also killed in an Israeli airstrike in Dahieh on October 3. Delegates from the highest ranks of the Iranian government, along with private citizens, have traveled to Lebanon to attend the funeral for Nasrallah and Safieddine, which is scheduled for later today.
