West Pursuing Its Past Policy of ‘Plundering’ Iran’s Oil: Russia

Moscow: Russia has accused Western powers of pursuing policies towards the Islamic Republic of Iran with the aim of exploiting the country's resources, particularly its oil fields, as they did in the past. During the weekly press briefing, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova highlighted these concerns.According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Zakharova referred to declassified historical documents, stating that American and British companies in 1946 sought to plunder Iran's oil fields, a situation that she claims is unfolding now. She noted that under their agenda of extortion, the West pressured the Iranian government to produce unlimited oil, drawing parallels to the current geopolitical dynamics surrounding Iran.Zakharova explained that Western countries are reluctant to relinquish the benefits gained through colonial and neo-colonial practices, which have enabled them to maintain their dominance. She asserted that most countries today are increasingly defending their rights, enhancing their economic, industrial, and scientific capacities, and strengthening national sovereignty, which she believes will expedite the formation of a more just and multipolar world order.Additionally, Zakharova blamed the United States for escalating tensions in the West Asia region, highlighting continuous threats against Iran and acts of intimidation. Despite these pressures, she noted that Russia and Iran continue to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation for the benefit of their people.Zakharova's remarks come amid US President Donald Trump's repeated threats against Iran and his orders for additional troop deployments to the region, including warships and aircraft carriers.
