World Confidence in US Financial System Waning, States Araghchi

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has criticized the US Treasury Secretary, Scott Bessent, for his statements about launching an economic offensive against Iran. Araghchi suggests that Bessent should focus on his own challenges, particularly the issues within the US bond market and the declining global trust in the American financial system.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi, who is attending the 18th BRICS summit in New Delhi with President Masoud Pezeshkian, expressed his views on his X platform. He highlighted the US Treasury Secretary's remarks about impoverishing Iranians and collapsing their economy, pointing out the irony of Bessent's inability to stabilize the bond market as global confidence in the US financial system diminishes.

Araghchi also remarked on the growing financial instability in the US, noting that the current distress in the bond market is merely a precursor to more significant challenges. The US's intensified economic measures against Iran have exacerbated the situation in the treasuries market, with government bond interest rates soaring to unprecedented levels amidst substantial budget deficits, which presently stand at approximately 6 percent of GDP.
