America Agrees to Indirect Nuclear Talks with Iran: Araqchi

Algiers: Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi has announced that the United States has agreed to engage in indirect nuclear negotiations with Iran, despite the ongoing 'maximum pressure' campaign. Speaking at a meeting with Algerian elites and media figures, Araqchi emphasized that Iran will not engage in direct talks with Washington while under pressure and military threats.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araqchi stated that negotiations should take place on equal terms and that the current environment of pressure and threats is not conducive to fair discussions. While direct negotiations are off the table, he confirmed that Iran remains open to indirect diplomatic talks with the United States.

Araqchi revealed that high-level indirect negotiations are scheduled to occur in Oman on Saturday. This follows a March 7 announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump, who had sent a letter to Iran proposing nuclear discussions. Although Iran rejected direct talks due to what it views as a hostile U.S. approach, it expressed willingness to consider indirect negotiations.

Recent weeks have seen a spike in tensions between the two nations, exacerbated by Trump's warnings of potential 'bombing' if Iran refuses to negotiate. On Monday, Trump reiterated that failure in the talks could result in Iran facing 'great danger.'

In his address, Araqchi reiterated that Iran does not desire war but is prepared to defend itself if necessary. He also emphasized that Iran's nuclear program is peaceful, dismissing any claims to the contrary as 'baseless.' Araqchi expressed confidence in resolving concerns through diplomatic channels.
