Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has dismissed Washington's recent imposition of what it describes as 'the most crushing sanctions in human history'. Araghchi critiqued the move by highlighting a historical pattern of US economic pressures that have previously failed to achieve their objectives. According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi took to his X account on Friday to share a 14-year-old post from former US President Barack Obama, which referred to 'the most crippling sanctions in history.' Araghchi noted the repetitive nature of these strategies, citing past US efforts as ineffective. He recalled, "8 years ago: 'Maximum pressure.' Failed. 5 months ago: 'Unconditional surrender.' Failed." Araghchi further commented on the recent measures, stating, "Today: 'Most crushing economic operation ever.' Bound to fail." He emphasized the cyclical nature of US economic strategies against Iran with his remark, "We have seen this movie before. Same bull. Different bullies." The reference to the pas t sanctions came from an October 12, 2012, message posted by Barack Obama on Twitter, quoting then-Vice President Joe Biden's assertion about the sanctions being the most crippling in history.
