Average Age of Iranian Population Rises to 32 Years: Official Warns of Aging Crisis

TEHRAN: The average age of Iran's population has increased from 22 to 32 years, signaling a rapid aging process that could have profound social and economic implications, according to Marzieh Vahid Dastjerdi, Secretary of the National Population Headquarters.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Dastjerdi revealed these statistics during a ceremony on Wednesday, highlighting the urgency of addressing Iran's aging population. She warned that if current trends persist, by 2052, 33% of Iran's population will be elderly, compared to the current 10%. This demographic shift is expected to pose significant challenges for the nation.

Dastjerdi cautioned that if the population decline continues unchecked, Iran may face diminished global significance by the year 2100. She stressed the importance of understanding the multifaceted nature of the issue, which encompasses cultural and social factors, and expressed gratitude for the efforts of those working in this challenging field.

The Secretary urged government officials to collaborate in addressing the population crisis, emphasizing the need to safeguard the health of mothers and infants. The call to action underlines the critical need for policy measures aimed at stabilizing Iran's demographic trends and ensuring long-term national stability.
