Tehran:Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baqaei has dismissed US allegations that Iranian religious beliefs are hindering negotiations, asserting that the deadlock results from the US's negotiation tactics and failure to fulfill its commitments.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei made these remarks in response to US Secretary of State Marco Rubio's comments, which characterized Iranian religious beliefs as an obstacle to progressing in negotiations. Baqaei questioned the connection between US diplomatic failures and Iranian religious beliefs in a post on X.
Baqaei emphasized that Iranian faith does not obstruct rationality and criticized the US for its negotiating practices, which he described as one-sided and lacking genuine diplomacy. He argued that the US demands concessions without offering reciprocity and disregards the legitimate interests of the other side, which hinders reaching a lasting agreement.
Furthermore, Baqaei called on the US to cease making ideologically driven assumptions about Iranian religious beliefs. Instead, he urged the US to understand Iran's strategic interests and legitimate security concerns, highlighting the need for the US to address its own history of broken promises rather than blaming others.
