Calling Strait of Hormuz by Fake Names ‘a Terrible Mistake’: Iran FM

Tehran: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has declared that using any false nomenclature for the Strait of Hormuz constitutes a 'terrible mistake.' 'Today is Persian Gulf Day in Iran, marking our ancestors' expulsion of Portuguese from Strait of Hormuz 400 years ago,' he wrote in a message on X to commemorate the occasion.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi highlighted that while US President Donald Trump correctly refers to the Persian Gulf, the Pentagon has erred by employing a fabricated term for the waterway. 'POTUS uses the correct term 'Persian Gulf', not the Pentagon's fake version. But calling Hormuz anything else is indeed a 'terrible mistake',' Araghchi stated.

Iran has taken the step of closing the strategic Strait of Hormuz, which is a crucial route for global oil and gas supplies, to shipping linked with the US and Israeli regime and their allies since the onset of military aggression on February 28. Iranian officials maintain that passage through the Strait will only be permitted with Iran's authorization following the end of the conflict.
