Moscow: Iran’s Ambassador in Moscow, Kazem Jalali, has emphasized the crucial importance of enhancing strategic and comprehensive relations with Russia to safeguard Iran’s national interests. In an interview with IRNA, Jalali described this relationship as essential, particularly considering Russia’s status as a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Jalali pointed out that the political and economic ties between Iran and Russia have reached unprecedented levels. He highlighted Russia’s active involvement in a prolonged conflict with Western nations over the past three years and its continued state of war. Furthermore, he noted that Russia closely monitored the 12-Day War between Iran and the Israeli regime, adopting a supportive stance towards Iran while condemning Israeli actions.
Jalali underscored Russia’s backing of Iran in international forums, including the UNSC and the Board of Governors of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), as well as other regional and international organizations. He stressed the importance of Iran’s interaction with global powers, especially permanent UNSC members, in anticipation of potential confrontations on the international stage.
The ambassador also mentioned the administration under President Masoud Pezeshkian, which has prioritized the completion of the North-South Corridor. This initiative aims to diversify Iran’s economic connections and strengthen its neighborhood policy. Jalali concluded by stating that the balanced development of diplomatic relations with foreign powers, particularly within the framework of the evolving international order, remains a priority for Iran’s diplomatic efforts.
