Tehran: The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement regarding the ceasefire plan in Gaza and emphasized that Iran has always supported any initiative that includes stopping ethnic cleansing and war crimes and crimes against humanity in Gaza and provides the basis for realizing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the statement highlighted the international community’s legal and moral responsibility to confront the ongoing genocide in Gaza, as outlined in the “1948 United Nations Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of Genocide.” It also noted each state’s responsibility to assist the legitimate struggle of the Palestinian people for self-determination and freedom from occupation, apartheid, and colonialism by the Zionist regime. Iran expressed its support for initiatives that halt ethnic cleansing and war crimes in Gaza and promote the Palestinian right to self-determination.
The statement further warned of the Zionist regime’s history of breaching promises and engaging in expansionist and racist plans. It emphasized that decisions regarding the ceasefire plan should be determined by the Palestinian people and resistance. Iran stated its readiness to welcome any decision that stops the genocide of Palestinians, ensures the withdrawal of the Zionist occupying army from Gaza, respects the Palestinian right to self-determination, allows humanitarian aid to enter, and facilitates the reconstruction of Gaza.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry also asserted that stopping the genocide in Gaza does not absolve governments and international institutions of their responsibility to legally prosecute the crimes of the Zionist regime. It called for identifying and prosecuting the perpetrators of war crimes, genocide, and crimes against humanity in the Gaza Strip to end the Zionist regime’s impunity.
Iran expressed hope for the immediate delivery of humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and announced its readiness to participate in these efforts.
