Tehran: Iranian Speaker of Parliament Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has openly criticized US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent on social media, addressing issues related to rising bond yields and war expenses.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Ghalibaf responded to Bessent's assertions about the US's management of millions of barrels of oil passing through the Strait of Hormuz by sharing an article authored by Nobel laureate economist Paul Krugman. The article, titled 'Scott Bessent Fails to Gaslight the Market,' scrutinizes Bessent's market strategies and the credibility of his policies.

Ghalibaf ridiculed Bessent's mention of '130 million barrels' by countering with different '130' statistics. He advised Bessent to instruct his staff to check Moody's data, which indicates more than $130 billion in war-related costs, and to inquire about the over $130 million that Jane Street allegedly lost while shorting oil for the US in a single futures roll.

Ghalibaf concluded his post by criticizing the US sovereign debt markets, stating: 'Liar liar yields on fire.'
