Baghdad: Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf has arrived in Baghdad at the head of a high-ranking parliamentary delegation for talks with senior Iraqi officials on strengthening bilateral relations, border security, counterterrorism, and economic cooperation.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, upon his arrival in Baghdad on Wednesday morning, Ghalibaf was received by First Deputy Speaker of the Iraqi Parliament Adnan Fayhan and other officials.
During the visit, Ghalibaf is scheduled to meet with senior Iraqi officials and prominent political, economic, and cultural figures to discuss regional developments, Tehran-Baghdad strategic cooperation, and joint efforts to promote stability and security in West Asia.
Before departing Tehran, the parliament speaker said that the Iranian delegation would discuss expanding cooperation between the two countries in economic, political, cultural, social, and security fields.
Ghalibaf also said he would meet with Iraq's President Nizar Amedi as well as a number of Iraqi economic and cultural figures, describing the visit as particularly important given the significance of relations between Iran and Iraq in regional developments.
He stressed that the two countries play an influential role in the region, adding that the region is likely to witness a new order in the future and that the visit could help create an opportunity for the two countries to coordinate their positions and deepen cooperation.
The Iranian delegation will also address the implementation of existing bilateral agreements and ways to further develop economic ties.
Ghalibaf is additionally scheduled to attend a ceremony in Karbala marking the 40th day since the funeral of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. He will attend the ceremony as a representative of Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Sayyid Mojtaba Hosseini Khamenei in this ceremony.
The parliament speaker said he would convey the Leader's greetings, message, and appreciation to the Iraqi people for their participation in the funeral ceremony of the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution.
