Tehran: Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf stated that diplomacy should serve to safeguard military gains and be supported by defense capabilities, during a meeting with Hamas political Leader Mohammad Darwish.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, the meeting was held on the sidelines of funeral ceremonies for the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei. Ghalibaf emphasized that negotiations need to resolve military conflicts while preserving the accomplishments of fighters. He noted that diplomacy can only succeed if the nation remains prepared to defend itself.

Ghalibaf recounted his role in negotiations with the United States on behalf of Iran, where Tehran demanded that respect for the territorial integrity of regional countries and an end to military actions against Iran's allies be incorporated into any agreement. These demands were included in a memorandum of understanding with Washington.

He further asserted that Iran would persist in its support for Muslim nations and allied resistance groups, guided by the country's leadership. This support could manifest in military or political forms, including negotiations.

Darwish commended Iran's diplomatic achievements, particularly in the agreement with Washington, noting that the United States and Israel failed to defeat Palestinian resistance in Gaza or achieve their objectives against Iran during the recent conflict. He acknowledged that Iran has managed to shift the balance in favor of the Islamic Ummah through its diplomatic efforts.
