‘Good Progress’ Achieved in Longest Iran-US Negotiations: FM Araghchi

Geneva: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi announced that the Iranian and US delegations have made "good progress" in the third round of indirect negotiations in Geneva, Switzerland. He described this round as "the most serious and longest," noting the increased seriousness between the parties compared to previous discussions.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi briefed reporters after the talks concluded on Thursday evening. He acknowledged the participation of Rafael Grossi, Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency, highlighting his presence as beneficial for technical discussions. Araghchi mentioned that while there has been an understanding reached in certain areas, some differences remain unresolved.

Araghchi explained that Thursday's discussions delved deeply into the components of a potential agreement, focusing on both nuclear issues and sanctions removal. He announced that the technical teams will commence further talks on Monday, with a new round scheduled for next week following consultations in their respective capitals. The Iranian delegation has also made its expectations clear regarding the lifting of sanctions.

In a related development, Oman's Foreign Minister Badr bin Hamad Al Busaidi, acting as an intermediary, shared on his X media platform that "significant progress" was made during the third round of indirect talks. He confirmed that a technical-level negotiation is slated to occur in Vienna next week.
