New York:Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran met with Nicaraguan Foreign Minister Valdrack Ludwing Jaentschke Whitaker on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, during his stay in New York, Araghchi engaged in discussions with numerous counterparts from various countries, as well as international figures, at the UNGA session.

Representatives from all 193 UN member states gathered in New York from September 22 to 28, 2026, for the assembly, which is centered around the theme 'Rebuilding Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All.' The session aims to restore trust between nations and strengthen multilateralism while equipping international institutions to address emerging challenges.

Key topics on the agenda include global peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, climate change, sea-level rise, pandemic preparedness, and AI governance. The week is marked by numerous high-level and bilateral meetings, positioning New York as a hub of global diplomacy.
