Iran and Sri Lanka Foreign Ministers Hold Talks in New York

New York:Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi of Iran and his Sri Lankan counterpart, Vijitha Herath, met on the sidelines of the 81st session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi engaged in discussions with numerous counterparts from various countries and international figures during his stay in New York for the UNGA session.

The 81st session of the UN General Assembly has brought representatives from all 193 UN member states together in New York from September 22 to 28, 2026. The session, under the theme 'Rebuilding Trust, Managing Transformation: A United Nations That Delivers for All,' aims to restore trust between nations, enhance multilateralism, and equip international institutions to address emerging challenges.

Key topics on the agenda include global peace and security, human rights, sustainable development, climate change, sea-level rise, pandemic preparedness, and AI governance. Alongside formal speeches, the week features a plethora of high-level and bilateral meetings, establishing New York as a hub of global diplomacy.
