Iran and Turkmenistan Discuss Transport and Trade Cooperation Amid Regional Tensions

Tehran: Iran's Minister of Roads and Urban Development, Farzaneh Sadegh, and Turkmenistan's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Rashid Meredov, engaged in a phone conversation to address key issues surrounding land and air transport, as well as trade and energy cooperation. Sadegh expressed gratitude towards Turkmenistan's leadership for their support and humanitarian aid following the martyrdom of the Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, alongside several IRGC commanders, officials, and citizens.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Sadegh emphasized the importance of enhancing economic and transport ties between the two nations. She acknowledged Turkmenistan's supportive response to the recent US-Israeli attacks on Iran, highlighting the positive actions and positions taken by Turkmenistan during these challenging times. One significant measure praised by Sadegh was Turkmenistan's decision to extend working hours at land borders to 13 hours, a move aimed at easing road transport and alleviating traffic congestion, benefiting both countries and the Central Asian region.

In response, Meredov conveyed Turkmenistan's commitment to convene the joint economic commission with Iran at the earliest convenience. He assured that the issues brought forth by Iran's minister would be actively pursued. Despite the ongoing aggression against Iran, Turkmenistan has maintained open borders, underscoring its willingness to collaborate on regional stability and economic advancement.
