Tehran: Chief Commander of the Islamic Republic of Iran Army Major General Amir Hatami has emphasized the critical role of air defense as a symbol of Iran's defensive power and self-reliance, noting that recent imposed wars have reinforced its strategic significance in securing the nation and safeguarding its airspace.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Hatami conveyed these sentiments in a message commemorating Air Defense Day and the anniversary of the Khatam al-Anbiya Joint Air Defense Headquarters' establishment. He extended congratulations to Brigadier General Alireza Elhami, commander of the headquarters and the Army's Air Defense Force, along with its commanders, personnel, and the families of fallen service members.

Hatami noted that the establishment of the joint headquarters was a 'valuable and farsighted initiative' by the martyred Leader of the Islamic Revolution, Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, prioritizing integrated air defense in the country's military strategy. This initiative has fostered coordination and unity among Iran's Armed Forces' air defense capabilities, creating a robust foundation for airspace protection.

The Army chief praised the air defense personnel's efforts during the eight-year Iran-Iraq war, highlighting their resistance and sacrifice on the front lines. He also mentioned that Iranian specialists and young experts have since accelerated efforts towards self-sufficiency, indigenization, and the enhancement of air defense systems.

Hatami reiterated that recent imposed wars have highlighted the essential and strategic role of air defense in maintaining security and protecting the nation's airspace. He pointed to the use of advanced indigenous equipment and systems, combined with the knowledge, faith, and constant readiness of air defense personnel, as exemplifying Iran's defensive power and self-reliance.

In his message, General Hatami also honored the air defense personnel who sacrificed their lives while defending Iran's skies, acknowledging their dedication to safeguarding the nation's security and dignity.
