New delhi: Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has urged BRICS member states to develop strong economic defense structures to ensure resilience and growth amid global crises. Addressing the BRICS foreign ministers' meeting in New Delhi, Araghchi emphasized the need for nations to transition from crisis management to opportunity management, advocating for proactive roles in catalyzing positive changes.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Araghchi proposed four pillars-innovation, resilience, cooperation, and sustainability-as crucial for this strategic shift. He highlighted the importance of extending innovation beyond technology to include governance methods and development models, and encouraged BRICS nations to bridge the digital and technological divide. Araghchi called for a platform that allows the free exchange of technology, knowledge, and human capital among member states.
He pointed out the fragility of current systems when faced with economic, environmental, and security challenges, attributing significant damage to aggressive actions by the United States and Israel against Iran and other regions. To bolster resilience, Araghchi advocated for securing supply chains, diversifying monetary systems, and establishing robust economic defenses against unilateral pressures. He emphasized that resilience is essential in today's high-risk world, necessitating independent financial systems, joint strategic reserves, and enhanced cyber and digital security.
Araghchi stressed that amid increasing unilateralism, cooperation is the only viable path forward. He urged BRICS to engage in structural and synergistic cooperation, respecting national sovereignty and cultural differences. He concluded by urging fellow ministers to view the meeting as the beginning of a strategic operation aimed at creating a world where innovation, resilience, cooperation, and sustainability are realized daily.
In his address, Araghchi also highlighted the impact of aggression against Iran. He recounted the resilience of the Iranian people in the face of brutal and unlawful attacks, emphasizing Iran's commitment to independence and resistance against imperial power. He reiterated Iran's stance against military solutions and its readiness to pursue diplomacy while defending its sovereignty. Araghchi called for BRICS and the international community to condemn violations of international law and work towards ending the impunity of aggressors, advocating for a just and balanced global order.
