Tehran: Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Esmaeil Baqaei, has fiercely criticized German Chancellor Friedrich Merz's accusations regarding the suspected explosion near the United Arab Emirates' nuclear power plant, labeling them as 'baseless and selective'.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Baqaei expressed his discontent in a German-language message on his social media account, highlighting the perceived double standards of Western leaders. He pointed out their indifference towards past attacks on Iran's nuclear sites, which he claims were carried out illegally and without condemnation.

Baqaei further criticized Merz by comparing his stance to hypocrisy, as attacks on Iran's nuclear facilities by the US and the Zionist regime, under the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency, were not only uncondemned but also justified by Western leaders. He characterized the incident near the UAE nuclear plant as a 'false flag operation' orchestrated by adversaries of peace in the region.

He questioned the German chancellor's sudden invocation of 'international law' and 'regional security' to support his accusations, noting that even the UAE had not officially blamed Iran for the incident. Baqaei emphasized that if nuclear facility attacks threaten regional security, the same principle should apply universally, not merely when Western interests dictate.

In response to Merz's rhetoric, Baqaei likened the selective criticism to the character 'Judge Adam' from Blake Morrison's play 'The Broken Pot', suggesting that Merz assumes the role of a justice arbiter while ignoring his own biases and actions.
