Iran Criticizes Unilateral Economic Measures at G24 Meeting

Bangkok:The deputy for international relations of the Central Bank of Iran has issued a warning regarding the potential dangers of unilateral measures in the global economy, suggesting they could exacerbate economic fragmentation, increase risks, and heighten uncertainty.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Abolfazl Kodehi made these remarks at the G24 meeting of central bank governors and finance ministers in Bangkok, Thailand. He emphasized the importance of strengthening economic cooperation, enhancing economic resilience, and reforming international institutions to mitigate the effects of unilateralism.

Kodehi pointed out that while globalization has offered significant opportunities for many economies in recent decades, the progress of developing international institutions and frameworks has slowed. He criticized unilateral economic policies for undermining global cooperation and increasing the vulnerability of the world economy to uncertainty and risks.

He also highlighted the potential of regional cooperation in safeguarding economies against risks associated with global fragmentation, stressing the need for efficient institutions and practical frameworks to support trade, investment, financing, and technical cooperation.

The upcoming 2026 Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund and the World Bank Group are scheduled to occur from October 12 to 18 in Bangkok, Thailand.
