Iran Expresses Condolences Over Tragic Incident That Killed 77 in Eastern Iraq

Tehran: The spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Iran has issued a message of condolence following the deaths of 77 people in a fire in a large shopping center in Kut, Wasit Governate, located in eastern Iraq.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Esmaeil Baqaei wrote on his X page on Thursday, ‘The Islamic Republic of Iran offers its heartfelt condolences to the families and friends of those who lost their lives in the fire incident in neighboring Iraq’s eastern city of Kut.’

He also stated, ‘We express our deepest sympathy and solidarity with the people and Government of our brotherly country Iraq and stand ready for any assistance in this trying time.’

Baqaei further prayed to Allah Almighty for patience and strength for the victims’ grieving families and a swift recovery for the injured.

Following the tragic incident, three days of mourning have been declared in Wasit.
