Tehran: Iran has expressed ‘serious doubts’ regarding Israel’s commitment to a ceasefire, with Major General Abdolrahim Mousavi, Chairman of the Chief of Staff of the Iranian Armed Forces, declaring the country’s readiness to respond decisively to any renewed Israeli aggression. This statement comes in the wake of a ceasefire that concluded a conflict involving Iran, Israel, and the United States.
According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Major General Mousavi shared these concerns in a telephone conversation with Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman. The discussion revolved around the 12-day war initiated by Israel and supported by the United States. Mousavi emphasized Iran’s preparedness to counter any further aggression while expressing skepticism about the enemy’s adherence to its ceasefire obligations.
Mousavi highlighted that the U.S.-Israeli aggression occurred despite Iran’s restraint and ongoing indirect negotiations with Washington. He criticized both regimes for disregarding international norms during the conflict. He reiterated that Iran did not initiate the war but responded forcefully to the aggressors, reiterating the nation’s readiness to deliver a firm response should the aggression resume.
Saudi Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman expressed Saudi Arabia’s condemnation of the aggression and highlighted the country’s significant efforts to end the war. He also extended condolences for the loss of senior Iranian commanders due to Israeli strikes.
The conversation between the two officials underscored the importance of continued dialogue to enhance bilateral relations and promote regional security and stability. Both Iran and Saudi Arabia acknowledged their roles in achieving these objectives.
