Iran Firm on Nuclear Rights, Rejects US-Imposed Negotiations

Tehran: Iran will not retreat from its legal rights to peaceful nuclear energy and finds US-imposed negotiations unacceptable, a senior member of Parliament asserted.

According to Islamic Republic News Agency, Alaeddin Boroujerdi, a member of Parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, emphasized that Iran is unwilling to back down from its entitlement to peaceful nuclear energy. He criticized the demands made by the United States, particularly those communicated by Steve Witkoff, the US envoy to the West Asia region, during a phone conversation with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi. Boroujerdi argued that these demands essentially amount to the acceptance of ‘dictated negotiations.’

He reiterated that Iran is unlike other countries that comply with US mandates, highlighting Iran’s robust stance against US and Israeli actions. Despite US strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities earlier this year, which he noted had slowed Iran’s nuclear development, Boroujerdi affirmed that Iran’s foreign policy towards Washington remains steadfast and unchanged.

Furthermore, Boroujerdi dismissed renewed claims by the United Arab Emirates over the Iranian islands of Greater Tunb, Lesser Tunb, and Abu Musa as unfounded and repetitive. He noted that similar assertions had been previously raised within the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council. He suggested that Britain was behind such statements, alleging that London has a history of leaving behind disputes in regions it has exited, citing the Kashmir issue in the Indian subcontinent as an example.
